The Santa Monica Pier - the oldest pleasure pier on the west coast, built in 1908, has remained the premier attraction in the city.   Located on the Pier are shops, restaurants, pubs, entertainment, the historic Looff Hippodrome building and carousel, the spectacular rides and games of the new Pacific Park, and a fishing balcony. The Twilight Dance Series features free concerts during the summer. (310) 458-8900.

The Looff Hippodrome Building – located on the Santa Monica Pier has housed a hand-carved carousel since 1916. In 1946, the carousel had to be swapped out and now contains a 1922 Philadelphia Toboggan carousel.  The original 44 hand-painted wooden horses were restored in 1981 and were featured in the movie "The Sting" with Paul Newman and Robert Redford. (310) 458-8867.

UCLA Discovery Center - the newest high-tech pier attraction is actually underneath the pier located at 1600 Ocean Front Walk.  This discovery center includes a wall aquarium, "wet labs," and tidepool exhibits that focus on the delicate ecology of the Pacific Ocean. Admission is $3. and is open to the public Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. (310) 393-6149.

Muscle Beach – located south of the Santa Monica Pier, is the former beach workout site for body builders.  Efforts are underway to restore the area to its 1950's glory, but you can still work out on its gymnastic rings and bars, and read the sign detailing its history.

International Chess Park – located on the beachfront at Ocean Front Walk, hundreds of chess matches take place each day. Whether you are a beginner or an expert there is always a game awaiting you.

Palisades Park – From this cliff top you can enjoy overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offering a spectacular view of the Bay. Enjoy its lush greenery, palm shaded benches and walking/jogging paths.

Route 66 - (Santa Monica Boulevard) made notable by John Steinbeck, Bobby Troup and Nat King Cole The route extends from City at Centinela Avenue through Ocean Avenue. Enjoy the drive along this national route to capture the history and diversity  of Santa Monica.
